Bridging the Gap: How Joint Providership Fuels Dental-Medical Integration

Mar 18, 2026

We have a dream. It’s a big, bold, slightly "crazy" vision where the walls between the dental office and the doctor’s office finally come tumbling down. We’re talking about dental-medical integration

For years, the mouth has been treated like it’s not even connected to the rest of the body. It’s like there’s a "health firewall" at the neck! But we know better, right? We know that oral health is systemic health. We know that gum disease and heart disease are often two sides of the same coin. And most importantly, we know that when we work together as a full healthcare team, patients win.

Still, actually making that integration happen? That’s where things get a little sticky. It takes more than just a shared goal; it takes specialized education and a whole lot of coordination. That is exactly where joint providership comes into play, and why we are so head-over-heels excited about our partnership with organizations like the National Network of Healthcare Hygienists (NNHH).

The Struggle is Real

Let’s be honest: the traditional healthcare system is siloed. Dentists are in one building, primary care docs are in another, and they rarely, if ever, talk to each other. This isn't just a minor inconvenience; it’s a barrier to life-saving care.

When dental and medical providers don't communicate, we miss the early warning signs of systemic diseases like diabetes or cardiovascular issues. We’ve learned that the only way to break these silos is through education. We need dental professionals who understand medical protocols and medical professionals who respect the oral-systemic link.

But here’s the problem: creating that education is a massive undertaking. If you’re a mission-driven organization offering much-needed workforce training and development in oral-systemic education or oncology oral care, the last thing you want to deal with is the mountain of red tape required to issue Continuing Education (CE) credits.

If you’ve ever looked into becoming an Academy of General Dentistry Program Approval for Continuing Education (AGD PACE)  Approved Provider, you know it’s... a lot. It’s a grueling, expensive, and detail-oriented process. For many small-to-medium organizations, the sheer weight of maintaining AGD approval can stop a great idea in its tracks.

That’s where a dental CE provider partnership changes the game.

Joint providership is a collaborative arrangement where an accredited provider (that’s us!) partners with another individual or organization to offer CE credits for their educational activities. We essentially "lend" our AGD approval and expertise to your mission. You bring the brilliant content, and we bring the compliance muscles.

It’s a win-win. Actually, it’s a win-win-win because the students get high-quality, accredited education that actually helps them in their careers.

Spotlight: The National Network of Healthcare Hygienists (NNHH)

We couldn’t talk about dental-medical integration without talking about our friends at NNHH. These folks are true pioneers. They are out there doing the "hard stuff", creating ANSI-accredited, specialty education for hygienists so they can practice true integrated care.

Think about that for a second. Imagine a hygienist working alongside a patient’s medical team during cancer treatment to prevent oral complications. That is the future of healthcare!

Because NNHH is focused on developing speciality programs built on ASTM E2659 - THE global accreditation standard for certificate programs - they didn’t want to spend their days interpreting and managing AGD guildelines as well. So, they called us!

UpScale Education acts as their joint program provider. We handle all the AGD PACE compliance heavy lifting. When a hygienist finishes an NNHH course, we issue the AGD PACE certificates, handle the reporting and stay compliant with records. NNHH issues the certificates and credentials, and only needs to focus on mainting their ANSI accreditation, instead of also maintaining AGD PACE approval. They are grateful to outsource CE management, so they can focus on maintaining their ASTM/ANSI accreditation and developing new post-license credentials to move our profession forward.

Why Mission-Driven Orgs Love This Model

We’ve learned that the best educators are usually the ones who are the most passionate about their topic, not necessarily the ones who love filling out compliance forms (crazy, right?).

By using our services, organizations like NNHH can stay focused on what they do best: creating world-class content.

  1. Focus on Your "Why"

Whether your mission is oral-systemic health, ergonomics, or high-tech digital dentistry, that’s where your energy should go. You shouldn't have to be an expert in the ever-changing rules of CE accredi tation. We live and breathe those rules so you don't have to.

  1. Immediate Credibility

Building a brand-new CE provider from scratch takes years. By partnering with UpScale, you get to leverage our established reputation and "Approved" status immediately. It gives your students peace of mind knowing their credits are valid and backed by a professional team.

  1. Stress-Free Reporting

Nothing frustrates us more than a speaker or organization getting a "nastygram" from a licensing board because of a reporting error. We handle the submission of CE hours to the AGD, so your stu dents see their credits show up on their transcripts like magic. Simple.

The "Heavy Lifting" We Actually Enjoy (Seriously!)

People often ask us, "Do you really enjoy the paperwork?" And our answer is a resounding YES! Be cause we know that every form we fill out and every certificate we verify is one step closer to a more integrated healthcare system.

When we handle the record-keeping and reporting for a course on medical-dental integration, we aren't just "doing data entry." We are helping a hygienist get the credentials they need to work in a hospital. We are helping a dentist prove they have the training to consult with a cardiologist.

We’ve got you covered on:

  •  CE Certificate Generation: No more wonky templates. We make sure they meet every single reg ulatory requirement.
  •  Record Retention: We store everything for the required number of years, so if an audit ever hap pens, you can just point them to us.
  •  Reporting: We navigate the portals and the spreadsheets so you can stay in the classroom (or the operatory!).

Let’s Build the Future Together

We love "crazy" ideas and big visions. If you have a program that you think can change the face of healthcare, don't let the fear of AGD PACE compliance hold you back. You don't have to be an expert in the administrative side of things: that’s our job!

Whether you’re a solo speaker or a large organization like NNHH, we’re here to be your collaborative partner. We’ve learned the hard way how to navigate these systems, and we want to share that knowledge to help you reach your goals.

No dream is too big, and no compliance question is too small. If you're ready to take your educational mission to the next level without the headache of doing it all yourself, let's chat! You can learn more about us and how we work, or just reach out to start the conversation.

The gap between dental and medical is closing, and we are so proud to be the bridge-builders right there with you.
