NNHH Announced as a Preliminary Applicant for Accreditation

Aug 25, 2022

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a private, non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standards and conformity assessment system. The Institute has been working in close collaboration with stakeholders from industry and government to identify and develop standards and conformance-based solutions to national and global priorities since 1918.

The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) is the largest multi-disciplinary accreditation body in the western hemisphere, with more than 2,500 organizations accredited across approximately 80 countries. ANAB is a nonprofit, wholly owned subsidiary of ANSI, and has an established partnership with the International Accreditation Forum (IAF).

ANAB’s accreditation portfolio is comprehensive, including the ASTM 2659 certificate accreditation program, of which they announced this week National Network of Healthcare Hygienists (NNHH) is officially a "Public Preliminary Candidate."

Executive Director of NNHH, Jamie Dooley, RDH, BIS is excited about the process:

"Accreditation of our certificate programs is important to our students and dental hygiene profession. We searched for the right organization to credential us for a few years before finding ANAB. They are incredibly detailed and comprehensive. They will help us dial in our systems and processes even further, to ensure our programs meet the needs of our students, and will be formally recognized by the healthcare systems that will be employing them. Online certificates allow busy working hygienists to further their medical knowledge and confidence working collaboratively, in a self-paced manner, as multidisciplinary integration, science and technology continue to advance. We look forward to the day that hygienists can specialize in one or more areas of medicine like nurses do, and are proud to be on the leading edge, charting that course."

ANAB accreditation is nationally and internationally recognized as a mark of quality and assures that employers can have confidence that the certificate holder has completed the prescribed course of study and attained its learning outcomes. NNHH is proud to have been accepted as a preliminary applicant after working with ANAB over the past six months to ensure their organization and program are likely to attain accreditation.
