Brianne Carter I-RDH, COSE
PRACTICUM LEVEL
Oklahoma City, OK
Contact: [email protected]
Two positions were created as a result of her practicum internship at the Oklahoma City Indian Clinic where she performed screenings, and provided oral hygiene instructions and fluoride treatments in their women's health clinic. Initially they had her focus on only expectant mothers, but quickly realized any patient could benefit from having these services provided to them. Brianne is now the OKCIC Dental Practice Administrator and has another of our COSE graduates working with her as an I-RDH.

Jennifer Brown, RDH, TSS, COSE
PRACTICUM LEVEL
Little Rock, Arizona
Employed by Carti Cancer Center
Contact: [email protected]
Jennifer is an oncology hygienist on a multi-disciplinary team, who helps protect patients' oral health during their cancer treatment at CARTI Cancer Center in Little Rock, AZ. For her practicum she helped fellow oncology providers appreciate the oral health side of treatment, how it impacts systemic health, and the importance for cancer patients. She said she was able to link it all together for them, and that the knowledge she gained in the Oral Systemic Educator Certificate Program helped her feel better prepared to educate them for their patient's sake, and also for their own personal benefit, which was a surprise to her. Her practicum packet was the most in-depth and thorough we've received to date.

Jennifer Adamo, EPDH, COSE
PRACTICUM LEVEL
Eugene, OR
Contact: [email protected]
Jennifer's practicum was completed as a paid expanded practice dental hygienist on an integrated team. Her supervisor stated she was instrumental in the launch of the program and continues to be a relied-upon advocate for integrated oral health. She noted the vast benefits of having an RDH on an integrated care team, and mentioned the most important thing as the knowledge and expertise Jennifer brought to the care team, since medical providers receive very limited training on oral health. They felt adding a registered dental hygienist to their team helps address significant gaps in care, and enables them to provide "whole patient" centered care.

For her practicum, Karen educated patients in a biofunctional medical office. She rose awareness of the oral systemic link, and her supervisor said having an RDH on every collaborative care team just makes sense. Karen has vast additional training and education beyond dental hygiene, but she still found the certificate program comprehensive and valuable.

She was excited to let us know that all aspects are still running and continuing to develop.
